It’s Never too early to start getting ready for your Big Day

Just the other night my new wife and I were discussing her fitness journey, goals, and a variety of other related topics when she mentioned that she was feeling frustrated at her lack of progress thus far. I was somewhat shocked when she made the comment because she had just set her goal and started working towards it the previous week! Hearing this from her made me think of two things everyone should keep in mind.

  1. The scale doesn’t always tell the truth
  2. Success doesn’t happen overnight

First, the number you see on the scale can be deceiving in several ways. Did you know that your body weight and fluctuate as much as 8 pounds in a DAY!! You’re always going to be lightest in the morning and heaviest in the evening. So, if you hop on the scale right after you wake up then hours later come home from work proud of how you ate that day and decide to weigh yourself again to see, “how much you lost,” you’re going to be disappointed. With this in mind I’d recommend limiting yourself to a single daily weigh-in if you must. Frankly, I don’t suggest weighing yourself on a daily basis because it can lead to an unhealthy obsession, and ultimately the number on the scale isn’t the most important thing to keep track of.

If you work hard on your diet and exercise for a few months and lose 10 pounds of fat, but also gain 10 pounds of muscle in its place the scale is going to say you weigh the same that you did when you started. You may weigh the same, but your body will look much different. You’ll be leaner, more toned, and most importantly healthier. This is one of the main reasons we track everyone’s body fat percentage at Bells and Barbells! This way we can see if you’re actually losing fat and gaining lean muscle even if your weight has only slightly changed.

Looking back at point number two, success takes time. This can really be applied to anything, but especially when it comes to changing your body. The human body is a smart and complex system that will try it’s hardest to remain in whatever state it currently is in. This means any kind of change is going to be difficult because it’s the exact opposite of what your body thinks it wants. It takes many hours of dedicated hard work to get those Instagram famous bodies we all want. In fact, when starting to workout for the first time the changes your body makes are all internal and unseen. If you don’t see miraculous changes in a week don’t sweat it! Keep working your butt off and you will start to see results. It may be that you see very little for a few weeks then suddenly it all hits at once!

This is the biggest reason why it’s never too early to start getting ready for your big day! Unfortunately, you aren’t going to be able to hop on a treadmill two weeks before the wedding and look your best. If you give yourself plenty of time and set realistic goals all of us at Bells and Barbells will be able to walk you through every step. Our workouts are created specifically to see everyone reach their specific goals, and the included nutrition consultations will help get your diet on track! Just remember, if you are new to this, or even if you aren’t, the scale is not your best friend in most situations so don’t pay it too much attention. Even further, don’t get discouraged right away, but continue to work hard and stay consistent and you’ll have a wedding bod better than anything you could imagine.

A big thank you to Bells and Barbells Trainer Devin Wyatt for this weeks blog contribution! #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
